"Harps of Gold" from Tori’s seasonal record Midwinter Graces is based on the traditional 19th carol "Angels We Have Heard On High." As most of the carol covers on the album, Tori changed and added some lyrics and music.
Here, you can compare Tori’s version with the lyrics of the original carol.
For better appreciation, I used different colors.
Black : the lyrics are the same as the original carol
Orange : The lyrics are a rephrasing of the original carol (same meaning)
Red : Tori’s additional lyrics
I reported these colours on "Angels We Have Heard On High" lyrics as well. In this case, the lyrics in red are the ones that have been left out in Tori’s version.
Harps of Gold
I’ll show you how it’s done
You’ll smile through the pain
Sweetly singing over the plain
Gloria, Gloria in Excelsis Deo
They’ll show us how it’s done
Out in the street
no, they don’t have much
But listen to them sing
Gloria, Gloria in Excelsis Deo
Gloria, Gloria
playing on their harps of gold
And the mountains in reply
Echo, Echo, Echo
And the mountains in reply
Echo, Echo, Echo
Gloria, Gloria in Excelsis Deo
Gloria, Gloria
playing on their harps of
playing on their harps of gold
Over the plain
Angels We Have Heard On High
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Chorus
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong ?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Chorus
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Chorus
See Him in a manger laid
Jesus Lord of heaven and earth;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
With us sing our Savior’s birth.
Chorus
